Jack Lalane Juicer

The Jack Lalane juicer is one of the most well know juicers around. The fact that it is frequently advertised on television in 'infomercials' has undoubtedly helped the Jack Lalane juicer become such a well known juice extractor. For the Jack Lalane to be so popular it must also do a reasonable job of making juice and be capable of doing what it says in the infomercial, right?

Jack lalane juicerOne of the big selling points of the Jack Lalane juicer is the fact that it has a wide feed chute. This means the chute that you put your juice ingredients down is wider than most other juicers. In fact the chute is large enough to pass whole apples down in one go rather than chopping them up into quarters (or even smaller segments) as you would have to with most juicers. You can also pass numerous carrots down the chute in one go instead of one at a time. This can save you time in your juice preparation routines and many people find it very handy. For those interested another 'whole fruit juicer' with a wide feed chute is the Easy Health Cyclone. One drawback of passing the fruit down whole is that you cannot tell if say an apple has a rotten core before you put it into your juicer, granted this doesn't happen very often but it can happen.

The infomercial suggests that the pulp from the Jack Lalane juicer is very dry

Another time saving feature of the Jack Lalanne is that it ejects the pulp from the machine which means you can juice continuously without having to stop the juicer and empty the centrifugal basket as you would on non pulp ejecting juicers such as the Magimix Le Duo. The infomercial suggests that the pulp from the Jack Lalane juicer is very dry and whilst definitely being dryer than some lower price range juicers, it is not as dry as the pulp produced by some juicers.

For a centrifugal juicer the Jack Lalanne is not the easiest to clean, in fact there are 8 washable parts and although they only require a rinse, it is still 8 parts to rinse.

Another factor that should be taken into account when buying your juicer is the guarantee it comes with. The Jack Lalane juicer motor has a liftetime warranty but the other parts only have a 90 day warranty! 90 days does not fill me with confidence, compare this to the Cyclone which has a 2 year warranty.

If you are looking for a juicer that will juice a large amount of apples and carrots and similar produce quickly we recommend the Easy Health Cyclone over the Jack Lalanne for reliability, ease of cleaning and juice yield. Another alternative to the Jack Lalane include the L'equip mini 110.5 juicer which is also a centrifugal pulp ejecting juicer with a narrower feed chute.

Review by Anastasia from Bristol

When i first bought this juicer i was over the moon with it, me and my family used it happily everyday for the first 3 months however during the fourth month it stopped working for no apparent reason. I cleaned it and changed the fuse and it still failed to turn on. The supplier i bought this from has now ceased trading so i am left with i juicer that won''t switch on, an unhappy family and £120 out of pocket. It makes me wonder how much Jack Lalanne paid the people on the TV adverts too look and sound so pleased with it. Beacuse the whole thing is a total con.

Love juicing compost the pulp left over thought the power juicer elite was wonderful in the first month but then showed signs of ware and tear and now after 3 months it will not switch on. I can not send it back. The commercial is total lies it showed cherries and plums being juiced but boy only did them once it was so loud and they took ages to go down to join the pulp. Funny it was loud on the tv! I would give it 1 out of 5 if I could I wouldn''t rate it at all save your money for the Anthony Worral Thompson Pro much better unit altogether.

Its a great concept and I was using the juicer religiously. It was really helping with my stools and digestion. In fact, my poops sunk right to the bottom of the bowl which means they were real rich in minerals (the odor was horrific however) Fortunately, I don''t have a girlfriend cause she would have fired me. But then the fucking motor blew out-- its kind of a piece of shit. It needs more power.

The machine doesn''t work anywhere close to what is depicted in the TV commercial and other video sources. I''m very disappointed for the most part in that the juicer leaks juice and pulp all over and it is just tro much effort requireed to clean up. cleaning the macine of the packed in pulp requires to much time at the kitchen sink. If you do''t clean the machine immediately after use you will indeed find yourself with one great amount of time and effort to get everything cleanded up. The only thing good about this product is that it looks great on the kitchen counter and it does produce a great tasting juice but I defintely wouldn''t recommend purchasing this product.

My daughter bought me a Jack Lalanne Power Juicer for Christmas this past year (2007). And the ONLY problem I find is the carrots stain the inside, and use a little bleach in the dishwasher takes care of that. I use my juicer at least 2 times per day, wash it by hand, and have not had a problem with it. I am sooooooo happy with it, and would recommend it to any one.

This is a GREAT juicer. i have had mine for 3 years and use it 2 times a day. I have had ZERO problems. The juice is delicious, the pulp we use in our compost pile, or in other recipes.
Yes clean up can take some time, but it is well worth it. We have been healthier, have avoided the sickeness going around in piublic schools etc.

I''ve had my juicer for three years and have had no problem - except for the plastic parts that need replacing. It''s impossible to get hold of them, it seems.
The company listed in the instructions no longer exists and nobody knows who can help. So - though the juicer is good - I cannot use it as it''s impossible to get spare parts in the UK.

This is the worst thing I have ever bought.
I only recieved a German manual, the pulp is really wet so I question it`s efficiency, just try to juice a banane and see how much juice you get, nothing, just wet pulp, one of the plastic parts for it is made way bigger than it should be, so it is almost impossible to take it apart and the juice is coming out everywhere, slipping in to the machinery.
I have had thi juicer for only one week and I could not have been more dissapointed...oh yeah, and I also had to pay a fee which no one had told me about when i recieved the package. Don`t waste your money on this crappy s***…

I bought the juicer 3 years ago and it works great. The only time it was a problem was when I shoved an entire mango in and the pit brought it to a stop - my own fault.
I have tried spinach, apples, carrots, celery, grapes, strawberries, pears, cucumber, ginger and tomato and it takes them all perfectly without any problem.
Yes, the cleaning is awkward in a kitchen sink as the parts are big but if you rinse right away, it''s very easy to clean.
I''m not sure what happened to those who claim their juicer broke or can''t take carrots, maybe a bad batch in the factory.
I think this juicer is great and I am impressed that an infomercial actually was being truthful!

The unit did O.K. for about twelve usages over a period of six months. Then the plastic platform underneath the screw cracked leaving the unit inoperable. The warranty is only for 90 days and so I am out of luck. End up costing me about $10.00 per glass of juice! I have had an Acme Juicer (an old brand) for twenty years and it is still going strong. Lesson? Buy a decent juicer made in the U.S. if possible. Forget buying these cheaper Chinese machines like Jack LaLane Brand. It will not hold up long.

I would have given this 5 stars however after 3 months, it seems to be breaking down. I have a power switch issue where when you flick the power on, it doesn''t turn on and you have toy with it (pushing it in) to get it to remain on. Then theres a splashing issue with the juice coming out of the exit reservoir. The top part of it the juice splashes out and doesn''t flow downward.

Generally works well. Bought it on eBay and it lacked the crescent tool that was lost. Took a hitch pin clip/spring-type cotter pin 1/8" x 4" and straightened it to about 8" using vice grips and a vice then bent it into a crescent shape that fit the holes 3-7/8" apart. Another fix would be to get from a hardware store a steel rod 1/8" x 36" and cut off an 8" piece and shape it to fit.

This juicer certainly performed well, but I found it fiddly to clean and it is very bulky to store. However, the worst aspect is if you need any spare parts. I bought my machine from a tv shopping channel and recently lost my blade whilst building work was being carried out. I have spent many hours since emailing people and phoning round to obtain a new blade for my machine. I have finally given up and am looking for a new machine. So, at over £100 my Power Juicer only lasted a year.

Juicer works fine. Powerful enough to juice all that is supposed to be juiced. (per manual) Quiet operation, easily cleaned. If you treat the unit properly it won''t have 95% of the problems mentioned on this list. HOWEVER: An additional charge was offered for express delivery. ($14.95 for 4-5 shipment). AWFUL!! I just bought it brand new from the store. First off the instruction manual was missing from the box. I decided to make some cabbage juice and rolled it into a ball, just as instructed. WOW! It just kinda sat there while the blades ran over it, making hardly any juice while big pieces of leaf were wasted and thrown into the pulp bin. I decided to try some apples and they failed miserably.. I again had to take the machine apart and get the apple chunks out. I then gave up in utter disgust. I plan on trying to take that piece of shit back tomorrow. And no I''m not lazy or stupid, I''m actually a microbiologist so fuck off.

Haven''t owned one of these I''m afraid, but by the sounds of things I *REALLY* don''t want to! Blades wearing down after under 10 uses, motors failing for no reason, components melting in the dishwasher, the list goes on and on. Did anyone realise that the previous juicer that Mr Lalanne put his name to, the "Juice Tiger", was recalled because, "the plastic cover and wire mesh grater/filter basket may crack or shatter if the basket is not placed in the juicer properly, possibly injuring people nearby. CPSC and National Media Corporation are aware of 14 incidents resulting in at least eight lacerations to the hands, face, arms, and chest and one permanent eye injury." This is sourced from the official CPSC of the USA website; see http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml96/96086.html for further info. It seams as though Jack needs to put his brain in to action, if he actually possesses one, rather than his muscles, next time he endorses a product... ...third time lucky?

I just received my Jack Lalenne Power Juicer express yesterday, and have already used it like 6 or 7 time.
I don''t have a comparison to other Juicers, but don''t find that it is difficult to clean and put together or anything...I first used a plastic back in the Pulpcontainer, but then thought that is a lot of plastic bags...not very environmentally friendly (not bio-degradable ones), and must say, the pulp comes easily out of the Container anyway. I read Jason Vales Fast food juicing book and he has great hints on how to get your Kitchen organised, and to clean straightaway...so, I just fill a sink with hot water and washing up liquid and put things straight in and wash them up straightaway and rinse them off...takes about 3-5 minutes...!
I know some parts can go in the dishwasher, but well...it''s just easier to wash it there and then!
To whomever said just peel the fruit and veggies...that does remove an awful lot of goodness though...and surely this Juicer is meant to cope wiht it!
I am just hoping it will last me a while:)

This is one of the worst buys I have ever made and I would advise anyone interested in juicing to buy elsewhere. The quality of juice is good when the machine functions properly which is virtually never. It clogs all the time, the pulp goes everywhere except to the collector and juice leaks out of the machine at every conceivable point. Also cleaning is a mammoth chore. It is claimed to be dishwasher safe but cleaning in a European dishwasher (not USA) will void the warranty! Spend your money on something which works, not this rubbish!

The pulp is dry and the juice is very flavorful. Yes, it takes a little work to clean it, but dosn''t everything worthwhile in life take a little effort? For those of you who are too lazy to do a little work for good health, I suggest you continue to sit around on the couch eating fast food and wait for a remote controlled self cleaning device to be invented. By then you should be 6 feet under and I will still be enjoying my juice! Cheers & good health to all the other energetic juicers out there!

The juicer does a fantastic job of making Fresh, wholesome juice. The reason for me giving the juicer 4 instead of 5 is that the cleanup is a bit of a hassle. Also, the pulp catcher is all very well and good, until you find out that not all the pulp goes in there, infact the entire juicer gets caked in pulp. Also the plastic threads that hold the blade on are not in my juicer, perhaps it has been redesigned, but it certainly doesnt seem that this part will be as easy to break anymore.
All in all if you dont mind a bit of cleaning and you want a whole lot of juice then this juicer is definatly for you!

Just reading the reviews about plastic threads breaking.

I have seen this on a Jack Lalanne juicer but on mine, which arrived today, it appears to have had that section re-designed.

The blade and strainer assembly on this one pulls off the motor drive which appears to have a clutching arrangement using sprung ball bearings.

Maybe this is to protect the motor if it gets overloaded. No special tool needed either.

First impressions are quite good. I agree the pulp could be dryer, and cleaning is a bit of a pain, but after only a few uses I have cleaning time down well below 10 minutes.

You can''t expect a machine that does a messy job not to need cleaning.

The general build quality is average but the quality of juice is good. Overall, and taking into account that I paid less than £40 including delivery for my machine I am quite satisfied.

Jack Lalanne''s juicer is my introduction to a healthier life and diet. I just received it today. It was like Christmas this morning when it arrived. It only took one week!

My first action was to utilize the recipes and juice booklet... so I took those out and went to Trader Joe''s to buy the vegetables and fruits.

When I got home, couldn''t wait to begin. At first, I was pleased to see that it was already assembled.. .so I went right into the apple, carrot, and ginger recipe. I thought there was no cutting involved, but there is for certain sized fruits and veggies.

I am very pleased with the quality of juice that came out of it; however, the amount of pulp was a bit alarming... it was like throwing away a plate full of vitamins.. so I plan to read his recipes that incorporate the pulp.

Next came cleaning the juicer. At first, I was not pleased with the disassembly and cleaning involved every time you make a glass of juice. So, after I drank my juice, I went online to see if others felt the same way.

That''s how I found this site.

Seeing so many people disheartened about the disassembly and cleanup involved, I changed my mind. I decided to give Jack the benefit of the doubt.

So, an hour ago, I went back and made the Vitamin C boost drink... wow, there was so much juice in this one that I had to refrigerate alot of it... and the pulp wasn''t too bad on this recipe either.

So, I just disassembled and cleaned the machine again. The second time was a lot easier... I''m getting the hang of it and should have all of it downpat and under 3 minutes within the next day or so.

I plan to use this machine every day. Already, I am feeling the benefits of eating healthier and this was an excellent investment. Yes, I can hop in the car and drive to the McDonald''s down the street or pick up some juice at the grocery store that is loaded with processed sugar, perservatives, and chemicals... or, I can use the powerjuicer right in my home. This will enable me to eat the required daily intake of fruits and vegetables quickly and deliciously. The three minutes it takes to disassemble and clean is a small price for a healthier diet and happier life.

Cheers to Mr. Lalanne for a solid product.

A very good juicer for the price.Faster than the juiceman2,but a little messier.Clenup gets better with time,I also broke the plastic threads. The juicer still worked with the remaining threads.I was able to aquire replacement blades.

Initially I liked this juicer. The large feeding chute is a time saver. But the pulp was not as dry as it was with my cheaper juicer. I couldn''t find a way to order a replacement blade...which I thought I would eventually need due to apple seeds etc. dulling blade. The biggest disappointment is that the plastic threads broke that hold the blade in place. These threads are not fixable even with superglue. I used the juicer less than 12 times before it broke.

Plastic threads broke on juicer wheel after 5 weeks. Don''t know where to get replacement parts. Does a good job when it works. Is time consuming to clean up.

A good juicer for the money. Does well on fruit and veggies, but would not work on wheat grass. The down side is the juice comes out so fast it splaters and you have to hold your hand over the spout.

Why I am not happy with the powerjuicer from Jack Lanne:

Do you know the TV commercial. No pulp? Huh? This juicer produces a lot of pulp! No wet pulp? Huh? All the pulp is wet! Even from hard fruits likes apples and peers! No hard cleaning? Huh? You have the dissemble the whole thing every time you have juiced just one glass. The pulp is everyway in this machine! And, you actually have to tilt the machine to get the last bit of juice. If you don''t, you will spoil this juice on the floor, while trying to dissemble and clean the machine. Ok, the juice tastes well, but it feels that those TV commercials are like a big marketing and advertising scam for a lot of money!

After just a week, I can''t say enough good about this juicer. I''ve got the clean-up down to just three minutes, and today I used it three times. I have several half gallons of OJ in my fridge I may never drink because the juicer is so much better. I''ve never bought or cut open a pinepapple or peach in my life until this week, and the different combinations (including adding bananas and ice in a blender to the juice from this juicer) have kept things interesting and flavorful. The machine itself is durable. Key is don''t twist too hard when putting the blade back on - just enough to be firm, but not like you''re trying to open a stuck jar lid. My energy level at the gym is way up and my processed sugar intake is way down. Huge thumbs up. The pulp has been really dry, and I feel guilty throwing it away.

I''ve had my Jack LaLane juicerfo about a month and have had no problems. Clean up is a bit of a bore, but the amount of juice and ease of food preparation far out weighs any concerns I have about it.

I got this as a birthday present and was pretty impressed with what it can do. The juice tastes GOOOOOODDDD!! It isn''t the easiest to clean but I think its seems pretty good value for money when compared to some of the more expensive juicers.

I love this juicer!!! It cleans easily, it''s very quiet and best of all it makes a lot of juice.

Think this juicer is great. I agree with the previous comment that there is a bit more pulp than on the commercial but still get plenty of juice, yum. Tried other juicers which were noiser and don''t get the amt of juice this one produces. Definitely Worth a try.

I love this juicer. The chute is nice and wide and the jiuce produced is plentiful. Although some times there is alot of pulp left, it still produces an 8 oz glass of juice from 2 small - med apples, a med. sized peach and a handful of grapes. Plus my kids love the juice from it!

I''m not real happy with the Jack Lalanne juicer. It doesn''t seem to take the fruits and veggies easily, requiring more hand pressure, plus it often leaves a slice of fruit at the bottom which occasionally clogs up the blade. Clean up is no easier than the Juiceman Jr. I used to have, though it is a bit quieter. I''ve only used two juicers, but I''d rather slice things up more than have a wide shoot that doesn''t take stuff as easy. Sorry Jack!
