Vegetable juicer information
In the last few years the media has been consistently telling us that
the average western diet is now lacking in vitamins and minerals, overloaded
with fats, salt and processed sugars. Juicing vegetables using a vegetable
juicer is a great way to get a lot of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and
phytochemicals into our bodies.
Although many argue that fruit juices taste better than vegetable juices
there are still many great reasons to drink vegetable juice. We can get
more benefit from juicing vegetables when compared to juicing
fruits because our digestive systems find it harder to break down
and digest vegetables. Fruit juices also tend to contain higher concentrations
of sugar than vegetable juices. Because of these points many people who
juice for health reasons argue that it is more beneficial to juice vegetables
than juice fruit.
Vegetable juicers are available in various forms including centrifugal,
masticating, single gear and twin gear models. Some of the most popular
vegetable juicers are listed below.
The
Champion Juicer received the
Happy Juicer Best Fruit and Vegetable Juicer in our awards and is a reliable
workhorse that will juice vegetables at a good rate. The Champion cuts
and rips the produce to release the juice. It cannot juice wheatgrass.
The Green Star, Kempo and Twin Health
are twin gear models that can juice all types of vegetables and operates
at a slower speed than the Champion. These juicers crush the produce to
release the juice. Because of the method of juicing employed by the Green
Star the juice produced has a very high nutritional content.
The Magimix and the Omega
1000 juicers are examples of centrifugal juicers that will handle
most vegetables. The centrifugal juicers are not as efficient at juicing
leafy greens such as spinach or lettuce as the twin gear models and are
also not capable of juicing wheatgrass.
Single gear juicers that are capable of juicing vegetables in include
the SoloStar II from Tribest and the l'equip visor. These machines are
also capable of performing other functions as well as juicing.
Perhaps the most commonly juiced vegetable is the carrot as it has a
good wide nutritional value, has a sweet taste and so often forms the
base of many vegetable juice recipes. Carrot
juice has a high sugar content when compared to other vegetable juices.
Green vegetables such as spinach, lettuce, cabbage, pak choi, swiss chard
and Kale are popular healthy juicing ingredients. See the juicing ingredients
list for other information on other vegetables
that can be juiced.
