I am a total newbie to juicing and got this one as a result of very good reviews on Amazon. I have had it for 24 hours and so am on my second afternoon of exploring it. I started with carrots and on the first ‘juicer push’ in my lifetime, I think I pushed too hard for too long, and a burning smell came from the motor. I believe I had risked overheating it by pushing too hard. I have rectified my pushing style to be gentler with occasional ‘pulse’ pushing. I still wonder what is happening when I am pushing and nothing seems to be happening and then suddenly it is as if the vegetable disappears, and juice comes out into the [very good] jug.

I am a bit worried about the plastic hinges for the aluminium clamps, look flimsy.

I write these concerns because the first is down to easily rectifiable user-error and I reckon a warning to total newcomers will let the machine be judged on its merits. I will mention this when I do a review on Amazon. The plastic hinges, I believe, would benefit from a re-design. However, given I have judged them a weak-looking, I will simply be especially careful with them.

Estimating the juicing blades relative to my carrots, and my knowledge of 700 Watt motors, I expect this machine to last longer than I do. I am 56.

The removable plastic parts are thick and there are no little bits that can be snapped off. I hand wash them which only takes 45 seconds to dissemble, rinse in water … including brush-rinsing the metal filter with the great brush provided, And arranging them on the drainer. I timed the making of cabbage juice from taking cabbage out of shopping bag to cleaned parts on drainer and juice in mug as 5 mins and 15 seconds. As I get used to the process I am sure I will shave the time down considerably.

The introductory review on this website mentions its size as a possible negative. I would like to respond to that, saying that it’s main mass is due to its depth … the pulp containers bulges the back of the unit, but face on, it is not too wide, and if it lives on a kitchen surface with the back facing the corner of a wall, then its depth will be filling space that is unusable anyway.

I will be back in a few months with a proper review, but wanted to share my first impressions.

This is a great juicer. I use mine virtually everyday for all sorts of fruit and veg. It is quiet, quick and extracts very good quantities of juice. All juicers are historically awkward to clean but the philips only takes a minute to rinse each easily removable part under running water. I have a champion masticating juicer which is also great but you cannot beat the philips for speed and fuss free juicing! I would recommend this juicer to experienced juicers as well as newbies - excellent!
