Berry Breakfast Crumble
Serving: 1 serving
8 blackberries
8 raspberries
handful of organic porridge oats
1 cup natural live yoghurt
2 apples or 200ml apple juice
1 teaspoon honey (optional)
This delicous fruit smoothie is definitely worth getting up for and can be very quick to make. The berries give a wonderfully summery flavour and also give the smoothie excellent immune boosting properties. Blackberry and Raspberry are both high in antioxidants, these antioxidants neutralize free radicals that damage your cells. These antioxidants can also help reduce the signs of ageing.
The berries and honey contain natural sugars that will give you an energy lift and the oats have a low GI value and so will provide you with sustained energy release throughout the morning.
Juice the apples and add to the yoghurt in the blender. If you don't have a juicer or time to juice the apples then you can use apple juice from a carton / bottle but fresh juice is preferred as it is loaded with enzymes that act as the catalyst for many processes within the body. Juice in a carton is heat treated to extend its shelf life and this heating destroys enzymes in the juice.
Add the berries add blend until smooth. Serve in a shallow glass and sprinkle the oats on top. Drizzle the honey over the oats. For a swirl effect keep back half the yoghurt and gently stir it in after blending until a marbled effect is achieved.
