The Gerson Therapy and how juicing plays a part in it

The Gerson Therapy is a well known, natural therapy that has documented results on treating a wide range of chronic, degenerative diseases and other health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis and allergies. Juicing is a vital part and the main focus of the Gerson therapy where the patient consumes a large amount of freshly made, organic juice every day. In fact the patient will drink 13 fresh juices every day.

Cancer rates in the western world have been steadily climbing as poisons are being used in more and more products that are used in the household, be it in food, cleaning agents, cosmetics, paints etc.

The Gerson Therapy is based upon providing the body with the tools it needs to repair itself whilst enabling it to flush out all the toxins that have built up in the body. The tools that the body needs to repair itself are provided in the form of fresh, organic vegetable and fruit juices that flood the body with required nutrients, enzymes and minerals that enable the body to break down diseased tissue.

The juicing component of the Gerson Therapy is complemented by the use of regular enemas that help the body to flush out the waste toxins that have accumulated after intaking them from pollutants in the air / our diet / the water we drink / smoking. These enemas help benefit the liver.

Whilst it does not claim to cure every disease for every patient who undergoes it, the Gerson Therapy has a 60 year history of successful treatments and has been documented in over 200 titles of well known medical literature. Its creator, Dr Max Gerson was inducted into the Orthomolecular Medicine Hall of Fame in 2005. Orthomolecular medicine concentrates on getting the “correct” (ortho-) chemical molecules into the body, while eliminating toxic, harmful or otherwise unhelpful chemicals. More information can be found Dr Gerson published many books on the subject including A Cancer Therapy: Results of 50 Cases which has sold more than 500,000 copies around the world and has been published in 5 different languages.

One of the great benefits of the Gerson Therapy is that because it is uses entirely natural methods of treatment, there are no negative side effects that are associated with other forms of treatment for chronic diseases.

The basic principles of the Gerson Therapy should not be taken to mean that anyone can start the Gerson Therapy without the proper knowledge. Gerson Institute recommend that patients start on the Gerson Therapy under the guidance of a Gerson Institute licensed treatment centre. The treatment centre will be able to explain the Gerson Therapy clearly and provide the patient with the information needed to be able to successfully continue with the Gerson Therapy at home without the aid of the treatment centre.

The Gerson Therapy uses around 20 lbs of fresh organic vegetable and fruit a day for each patient. Most of these fruit and veg are juiced, indeed a juice is drunk each hour – totaling 13 juices a day. The patient will also consume raw and cooked foods as well as the fresh juices.

The results of the juicing and enema components as well as a small number of carefully selected supplements that are part of the Gerson Therapy lead to:

  • Increased oxygenation of the blood
  • Increased stimulation of the metabolism
  • Detoxing and regeneration of the liver
  • Restoration of the body’s essential defense systems – improved immune system that helps to prevent future illness
  • Cell regeneration improving health

Many other treatments will only result in healing one type of disease or condition. The Gerson Therapy is different from these treatments because it has been effective in treating the cause of the disease rather than the symptoms of the disease and gives the body back the ability to heal itself.

Juicers and the Gerson Therapy

It is important to note that not all juicers are considered suitable to be used for making juices for the Gerson Therapy treatment. See Gerson Therapy Juicers. Centrifugal juicers are considered to be non-suitable. Dr Gerson’s continued his research over a number of years and continued to develop and refine his therapy over a number of years to his death in 1959. From his research Dr Gerson concluded that cancer patients should have a two stage juicer with a separate grinder and hydraulic press. The Gerson Institute currently endorses both the Norwalk Hydraulic Juice press and the Champion Juicer in combination with a juice press for use with the Gerson Therapy.
